Call for SACES President-Elect-Elect

The SACES Executive Board is extending the call for nominations for the SACES President-Elect-Elect (2022-2025).

The board accepts nominations and self-nominations. If you are interested in running or nominating someone for one of these positions, please contact Dodie Limberg at past-president@saces.org.

For self-nominations, please include:

• A one-paragraph statement of interest in serving the SACES membership; SACES members will see this paragraph during the voting process.
• A copy of your CV

2021 Fall Webinar Series

The SACES Webinar Committee is now soliciting submissions for our 2021 Fall Webinar Series! We are seeking dynamic and engaging presentations from SACES members for our four monthly webinars. The dates of the upcoming webinars are:

Thursday, September 23, 2021

Thursday, October 21, 2021

Thursday, November 18, 2021 and

Thursday, December 9, 2021

All webinars will take place from 12pm - 1pm EST using Zoom.

We are seeking presenters with expertise in their topic areas, which must fall under at least one of NBCC's content areas and which highlight practical applications of strategies, interventions, and techniques that can be used in counseling, counselor education, supervision, and/or research. Priority will be given to webinar submissions congruent with SACES' mission of anti-racist counseling practice, and additionally those which explore intersectional issues which impact our field.

Submissions are open until midnight on August 30th, 2021. Selected presenters will be contacted during the first week of September to confirm acceptance.

Potential webinar presenters will need to upload a copy of a CV, a short bio, and a headshot, in addition to questions related to the proposed webinar.

Announcing the new Associate Editor for Teaching and Supervision in Counseling: Dr. Christian Chan

Christian D. Chan (he, him, his), PhD, NCC is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Counseling and Educational Development at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Past-President of the Association for Adult Development and Aging (AADA), and a proud Queer Person of Color. As a scholar-activist, his interests revolve around intersectionality; multiculturalism in counseling practice, supervision, and counselor education; social justice and activism; career development; critical research methodologies; and couple, family, and group modalities with socialization/communication of cultural factors. Dedicated to mentorship for leaders and scholars, he has actively contributed to over 54 peer-reviewed publications in journals, books, and edited volumes and has conducted over 120 refereed presentations at the national, regional, and state levels. As of July 1, 2021, he currently serves as Associate Editor for Teaching and Supervision in Counseling, which is a three year term.

Teaching and Supervision in Counseling (TSC) is the official journal of the Southern Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (SACES), a region of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES). The mission of SACES is to empower and support diverse counselor educators and supervisors in scholarship, advocacy, community, education, and supervision. The aim of TSC is to publish high quality scholarship that informs teaching, supervision, and mentoring in educational and clinical settings. Articles may be empirical, conceptual or theoretical, or based on current issues; with an emphasis on empirical research. Articles must be scholarly, grounded in existing literature, and have implications for the counseling profession including, but not limited to, counselor education, supervisory practice, clinical training, pedagogy, mentoring, or advocacy and public policy. We are incredibly grateful and enthusiastic to announce the publication of the special theme issue in Teaching and Supervision in Counseling (TSC): Anti-Racist Counselor Education.  This timely contribution was co-edited by Dr. Paul C. Harris from Penn State University,  Dr. Erik Hines from Florida State University and Dr. Renae D. Mayes from University of Arizona.  The editors and contributors of this special theme issue present 10 theoretical and qualitative articles focusing on anti-racism in teaching and supervision in counseling.

• Call for ACES Leadership Nominations

  SACES is seeking qualified members to nominate for three national leadership positions. If interested in being SACES’ nominee for ACES President-elect-elect, ACES Treasurer-elect-elect, or ACES Representative to ACA Governing Council, please review the ACES position descriptions and eligibility criteria HERE. Candidates may only apply for one position.

  You must use a Gmail address to submit your application. Completed online applications must be received at https://bit.ly/2PtQgkU by 6 PM EST on Thursday, May 6, 2021. Your ACES application packet must be uploaded as a single PDF file and include the following:

• • 1.    A 500-word statement of interest detailing how you meet eligibility criteria,
  • 2.    A 500-word Inclusion and equity statement noting your experience in inclusion and equity and how they have contributed to that as a professional,
  • 3.    Current curriculum vita,
  • 4.    A letter of support from your institution (dean or direct supervisor) indicating they understand the commitment involved in being ACES President, Treasurer, ACA Governing Council Representative and indicating they would support you financially in this role (e.g., course release, Graduate Assistant, Research Assistant, work-study student, stipend), and
